SMT Automated Production
We have now been running our SMT production line and dedicated factory for nearly 3 years. Over that time there have been several updates and so we are letting you know about those here.
- 8 Zone SMT Reflow Oven
- pbt Works Go29 automated stencil printer
- additional hand assembly stations
- positive pressure clean assembly cupboard
- LASER cutter
- Benchtop CNC
- Additional 3D printers
The combination gives us substantially more capacity as well as improving consistency.

So we continue to improve our Electronics Manufacturing capabilities supporting rapid electronics prototyping and small production runs while maintaining a pipeline of volume manufacturing opportunities with local Contract Electronics Manufacturers.
CEM or ECM or EMS?
You might have heard these terms used. Which one is correct? It depends on the service you are looking for.
CEM = Contract Electronics Manufacturer is the one I have tended to use. This generally denotes manufacture of a client provided design.
ECM = Electronics Contract Manufacturing is the same thing with the letters in a different order.
EMS = Electronics Manufacturing Services is broader and can included design support and collaboration.
For volume electronics manufacture we have typically engaged with Australian CEMs because we provide the design and they are doing a “build to print” of that design.
If you are working with us for contract manufacturing we are an EMS because we can provide more than “build to print” capability including:
- Design for Manufacturing improvements – DFM
This can include PCB footprint enhancements and tooling strip design - Design for Manufacturing and Assembly improvements – DFMA
- Test fixtures and Automated Test Equipment development
- Complete Design and Build Service
- Engineering approval of substitutions and alternatives
The last one of those is very useful when component shortages start to make things difficult.
So there is a look at some of our updated facilities and the different types of contract Electronic Manufacturing options available.
